Our story begins on a quiet Saturday night, March 6th, 2021—right in the heart of the pandemic shutdowns. Allen had set off for a night out in San Jose, while Cassy was gearing up for an evening in downtown Danville, California, where she lived. Danville, known for its tight-knit community, was one of the few places in the Bay Area still buzzing with life during the pandemic, as it worked hard to support local, family-owned businesses. That charm drew Allen and his friends on a 45-minute drive to Danville’s beloved Primo’s, a pizza pub with plenty of character.It wasn’t long after Allen had settled in that Cassy and her group walked through the door. One drink turned into another, and soon Cassy’s friend was petting all the dogs at Primo’s, eventually making her way to Bruce, a striking German Shepherd holding it down at Allen’s table. Bruce, bridged the gap between their groups, and before anyone knew it, their tables had become one. What felt like just an hour turned into several as they laughed and shared stories, completely caught up in each other. They exchanged numbers and in an effort to scare him off, Cassy shoved a Mozzarella stick in Allen’s drink. To her surprise, it sparked uncontrollable giggles between them.As the evening wore on, Allen decided to lean in for a kiss, that sent Cassy running for the hills. Frightened, she redirected her attention to other conversations in the pub to create some space. Making a second attempt to ward him off! Persistent Allen tried to get her attention but took the hint and reluctantly called it a night, heading back to San Jose with the impression that his chance had passed. But Cassy wasn’t quite ready to let him go. After Allen left, she found the last member of his group lingering at the pub and casually mentioned that if Allen was serious about her, he should ask her out on a real date. Minutes later, Allen’s phone lit up with a call from his friend, relaying the unexpected update.The next morning, Allen sent Cassy a text asking her out on a first date. She said yes, and that date became the first of many.
